Hello, Welcome to GraGlen!

House in the trees

Our house was designed and built by Deltec Homes in Asheville, NC. It is 1650 sq. ft. of living area. I'll eventually have a page with pictures of the outside and inside. We assembled it (with the help of an able crew) in January, 2000. It is on top of a cinder-block wall that encloses a crawl-space. The deck was designed by Ellis Glueck of Columbus, TX and built by Johnny Guzman and crew.

Thanks for Stopping By.

Events and Things

The camera is working out well. I have mastered most of the features but some I will probably never use. A point and click would meet most of my needs but they don't have a 12X zoom. Some of the pictures are darker than desireable but with practice that should change.

The wildlife management association has a lot of activities planned for this year and it should be a lot of fun.

The grasses were fantastic this year due to the summer rain. Some of the Little Bluestem was nearly head high and the Indian grass and Purple Top were over 2m.

After the summer rain, we had quite a dry spell. It didn't rain at all for nearly two months and the county imposed a burn ban. That put a stop to our plans for burning off a lot of the grassy areas. The burning is necessary about every five years to keep the grass healthy. The years between we can cut it twice a year to simulate grazing.

Politics

What a political year we are having. You can vote for people because they are black, a woman, an evangelical and several other traits that have little or nothing to do with being president of the United States of America. I hope that we are more intelligent than the candidates and the news media imply.

What type of government are you looking for? One that will provide health care, a guaranteed job and bail you out when an investment goes bad or are you wanting a government that works to keep neighbors from hurting each other and otherwise leaves us alone. How you answer will indicate whether you are going to vote for Democrats or Republicans.

Today, there is less distinction between the two major parties as the Republicans are moving toward Socialism regarding spending and limiting personal freedom. The current "conservative" President is one of the biggest spenders we have had since FDR and Lyndon Johnson. And the right wings favorite, Ronald Reagan, left the country with a hugh deficit.

What is going to correct the welfare problem? One thing that we can all do to help is increase our savings and keep our personal debt to zero. Don't worry about closing the banks and finance companies. they will survive.

Keep in mind that congress is the maker of law and the president is the executor of the laws that are created by the congress. Remember to vote for new people. Ours is a republic founded with the idea that citizens would comprise the government. Over the past couple of hundred years, we have created an aristocracy that believes they are the ruling class. They have created a special set of rules governing their health care and given themselves tremendous pay raises and retirement benefits. Many seem to have lost touch with what their job is supposed to be. If we vote for the same people every election, we will continue to get the same government that so many complain about.

Having a representative who only looks out for your area and does not consider the well being of the nation is going to prove detrimental to the nation. If the nation declines, it will bring more pain to us than any gain that was provided by that representative who only wanted to "bring the bacon home to her/his district". Better to stop all the special "earmark" projects and reduce taxes. We can do a better job of handling things on a county and state level.
